On the verge of retirement, US Marshal Jim Harper chases a fugitive murderer halfway across the Kansas plains before getting his man. But bringing the accused murderer back to Denver to stand trial turns into a series of ever-escalating ordeals that pushes Harper to his limits and makes him question everything he's ever believed about himself and the world around him.

Legion was a novel that jumped the line on me. It didn't even start out as a novel. I thought it was a short story. I started writing it as a reader magnet. I had intended it for the slot that ultimately went to Fireflies. But it kept expanding as I wrote. It became a novelette. Then a novella and the next thing I knew I was in the 50K word range and still in Act II.

And it kept getting darker. That's the thing that kept me rolling with it rather than trying to reel it back in and cap the word count. The darkness.

The current draft still needs a hard polish, but I'm happy to say it's the darkest thing I've ever written.

And speaking of reader magnets, I've decided to push Transcription back a week.
